The Lovely Bones co-star talks about Susan

Posted on January 12th, 2010 | Posted in The Lovely Bones | No Comments »

Rose McIver plays Susie’s younger sister Lindsey in The Lovey Bones. In an interview with teenhollywood.com she talked about working with Susan:

In “Lovely Bones”, how was working with Susan Sarandon as your colorful, wacky grandma? She put eggs on your hair and goop on your face to make you beautiful. Was that a fun or icky scene?

Rose: Well, Susan is fantastic. I think she pushed me to see how far it could go. I think there seven eggs on my head and a pound of oatmeal. She just went to town on me. I got some (cigarette) ash on me, a drink spilled on me. It was a very humbling experience.

But, it was so flattering to be cast as somebody in her family. She’s such a professional and has a lot of experience I feel like I learned a lot from working with her. But, eggs on my hair? I’m not really too fussy so it wasn’t too bad. I felt like my skin was in better condition after that though.

Sarandon flattered by Lovely Bones role

The biggest Hollywood star of Peter Jackson’s new film The Lovely Bones says she was flattered when the director offered her a role.

Susan Sarandon, best known for her Oscar-winning role in Dead Man Walking and playing Louise in Thelma and Louise, plays glamorous, “self-medicating” Grandma Lynn, whose granddaughter Susie is brutally raped and murdered by a man in the neighbourhood.

Sarandon says she had read and loved the Alice Sebold book long before Jackson asked her to be in his film adaptation.

He sent her a letter saying what he loved about Grandma Lynn and why he wanted her to play the role.

“I was very flattered that he asked me to do it,” she says.

“I had read it not envisioning myself in any of the parts, so I enjoyed it just on its own, and that was fun. “And I thought it was about things I would find it interesting to talk about for weeks during junkets.”

Sarandon says Jackson has a strong vision and is very collaborative, and managed to bring to life Susie’s heaven, “the in-between”, by teaming his imagination with computer-generated special effects.

Top actress and Oscar winner Susan Sarandon has tipped Irish starlet Saoirse Ronan for an Oscar nomination for her lead role in ‘The Lovely Bones.’

Sarandon, who also stars in the movie about a young girl looking down on her family after her murder, said that the movie had some standout performances.

“I definitely think Saoirse Ronan and Stanley Tucci (who plays the killer in the film) should be nominated,” said Sarandon, who won her own Oscar for her role in film ‘Dead Man Walking.’

Ronan and Sarandon attended the premier of ‘Lovely Bones’ in Sydney yesterday and the Irish actress said Sarandon (63), who plays her grandmother in the film, continued her motherly ways off screen.
“Susan did look after me,” she said. “Just being around someone as experienced as that is great.”

Susan Sarandon shines at Australian premiere of Lovely Bones

PLAYING a pill-popping, wine-guzzling, insensitive grandma in new emotional drama The Lovely Bones doesn’t really resonate with Susan Sarandon.

In fact on the George St red carpet for the Peter Jackson -directed film last night, the feisty Hollywood heavyweight revealed being the exact opposite was the key to her eternal beauty.

“Don’t smoke as I do in the movie, don’t drink too much and just be happy,” was her advice to Confidential.

Sarandon returns to the US today after a 24 hour visit, but hinted she may return next year.
